Penny

"Tag #253", rescued 10/22/2023

UPDATE! The Ulster County 4-H's Animal Whisperers Club kids are fundraising for her and "adopting her". They have named her Penny From Heaven!

#253 is an older 13hh dark bay Welsh-Standardbred pony mare rescued due to her need for immediate medical attention. She had a serious eye infection along with body pain, a puncture wound, and lameness in the left front. Penny was bailed by an angel donor, transported and seen by a veterinarian on arrival at Roseview Farm. The equine opthalmologist and local vet expected enucleation to be necessary, however, she responded unexpectedly well to around-the-clock medication and emerged with only minor scar tissue on the left eye. She also completed a course of antibiotics for the puncture, physical therapy for the neck injury, dental work, and the farrier began rehab work on her feet.

Penny arrived to us very scared and expecting rough treatment. A driving pony who seems to have known all work and no play, she also takes a rider, although she doesn't know much. Initially hiding in the back of the stall and running away in the pasture, she now comes to the gate and shyly asks for attention and grooming. Penny is getting more curious and affectionate with each passing day, and as of this update, has begun under saddle training to become a child's first riding pony.
