Mission

What sets us apart

We know it takes a village.

We know that everybody who engages with these rescues can help make them safer, happier and more adoptable. Positive human interactions do wonders for counteracting the fear, mistrust and negative expectations these horses carry. The requirement to help rescue is simply good will, mutual respect and a desire to listen and learn; horse experience is not required. Volunteers, visitors and group participants collectively rehabilitate these horses. The horses, in turn, help all of us become more present, aware, patient and kind. They discover joy and they share it with us. Once rehabilitated, we rehome our rescues under adoption contracts.

We are all about access.

We believe that those who stand to benefit most from horse experience often have the least access. We prioritize serving the Hudson Valley’s at-risk youth, trauma survivors and underserved communities at our burgeoning hub for equine-assisted learning. We welcome the community, too, knowing that rehabilitation is a group effort. Equitable, mutually-beneficial horse access is our goal.

Our vision

We envision a world of equitable access to horses, where underserved populations, survivors of trauma and at-risk youth can benefit from experiences with horses. We invite everybody, whether horse savvy or horse-curious, to be part of our rescues' positive new lease on life and to participate in the rehabilitation of these extraordinary creatures.

Pony Up Rescue Collective Mission Statement

Help Horses * Help People

Pony Up Rescue Collective seeks to expand equitable access to the far-reaching benefits of horses. We save horses from slaughter, rehabilitating and training them for adoption while inviting the community to join in as visitors, volunteers, donors, participants in free wellness programming, and sponsors. We aim to bridge the equestrian world and larger, underserved, animal-loving community.
