MABEL

Rescued in December 2025. Seeking Sponsor. In rehabilitation.

Mabel is a 25-year-old large chestnut pony mare, a severe starvation case we pulled from a kill pen in Oklahoma. She had been dropped off there by a family that could no longer afford to feed her nor dispose of her body (euthanize). Instead, they delivered her there in hopes that a rescue would find her. Luckily, we did.

She reached us January 3rd following six weeks of refeeding and quarantine, including five days at the local vet clinic where she was treated for anemia, dehydration, hookworms, inflammation, infection and neglected teeth. We thought perhaps she would be a euthanasia case, but she responded immediately to treatment.

We didn't realize she was pregnant until March, and miraculously, she gave birth to a healthy pinto filly on April 28th.

Mabel and baby Dandelion are doing wonderfully well, and Mabel will become adoptable after she weans in November.

Stay tuned!
